This past weekend, the 2018 Route 66 Sprint Series presented by MG Tires and Franklin Motorsports took over the Wolf Paving Raceway, Home of the Badger Kart Club for its fifth weekend of competition. The track located just outside of Dousman, WI has been the site of many epic kart races throughout it’s many decades of existence, and it never fails to provide top notch competition. The approximately 7/10th of a mile configuration was utilized this past weekend, and understanding the contrast between the high-grip new section, and the low-grip old section was key to getting a kart setup to work well enough in both areas. Several drivers figured it out well, and doubled up on the weekend.
The Saturday morning driver’s meeting concluded with the distribution of door prizes provided by the Series and our sponsors. Two Napoleon gas grills, several sets of MG tires, and 2 Pelican coolers were some of the prizes handed out to racers. Officials once again affirmed that, despite the fact that WKA recently announced the elimination of the Yamaha classes from 2019 sprint competition, Route 66 is still committed to the Yamaha and as long as the strong fields persist, there will be Yamaha classes at Route 66. Series officials also discussed the 2019 Series schedule, and indicated that there will be a maximum of 5 events in 2018, and so far only two of the tracks are committed, with Badger being one of them.
The live PA audio, broadcast via the Series website at www.www.route66kartracing.com/live, was broadcast all weekend. You can also listen via the Mixlr app on mobile devices by following the Route66KartRacing channel. Recordings of the audio have been uploaded to www.mixlr.com and are located on the Route66KartRacing channel.
Saturday evening everyone was treated to an epic cookout, put on by the members of the Badger Kart Club. Badger’s cookouts set the bar for everyone else, and the Wisconsin brats and ears of corn were spectacular!
The next outing for the Route 66 Sprint Series will be October 5-7 at Mid-State Kart Club in Springfield, IL. Online registration is already open.
